What is the story here? You have decided to build muscles and burn fat. That is great. But do you know that most people who start out are disappointed with their results?

Yes, it is true. The despairing flabby folks give up when it is not going well and they become disillusioned. Why?

For one thing we are an ignorant and impatient people. This is especially true for Americans. These character traits have helped to build our nation. However, they will not help you when it comes to your personal health and body care matters. You need to get better informed before you leap to the presumed land of simple ‘fat burn-muscle build’. I can help you get started and help you burn fat and build muscle and apply the calorie shifting diet plan to your advantage.

First of all, it is not possible to do both at the same time. Burn Fat is one process. Build New Muscle is another. They are not compatible. Here is why. Your body needs to be deficient in calories to burn fat. Your body must be in a calorie surplus status in order to build muscle. Yes, it is possible to firm and strengthen the muscles that you have while you are losing weight and that is good, but you cannot enlarge them.

When you are ready to build muscles, give serious consideration to working with a personal trainer. Or get a really authoritative book on the subject. It is clear you will need to eat a lot calories but it won’t work if you just try to eat all you can. For muscle building to happen, you must consume the correct foods with the proper nutrients in the proper ratios. That is a part of what calorie shifting is about, too.

For instance, when Michael Phelps was training for Olympic swimming events, he ate about 12,000 calories every day. That is about 6 times the calorie intake for the average person. True, he was burning as many calories as he was consuming but in the process he was building stronger and bigger muscles.

Once you have build up your desired muscle mass that is when you need to go on a calorie deficient diet to burn off excess body fat. There are two approaches to this and it makes a difference how fast you need to gain muscle mass, which way you choose.
One is to use a combination of resistance and cardiovascular exercises to avoid gaining fat while you are building muscle. Or build muscle faster by gaining fat along with it and then burn off the fat later. You really need to think carefully about this because it takes a lot of discipline to burn off the fat later. You might find it hard to stay motivated to burn fat once you have attained your desired muscle structure.

Once you get started on your muscle building and fat burning plan you will begin to see the value in some other alternatives to conventional diets. The entire concept of calorie shifting will take on new meaning because you will have learned a lot about how foods are metabolized within your body.
